The chaplet is made of howlite and silver beads, which symbolize the purity and faith of St. Joseph. This chaplet can also be used to pray the chaplets of other saints, such as St. Anthony of Padua, St. Michael the Archangel, Padre Pio, St. John of the Cross, and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The seven sorrows of St. Joseph include the flight into Egypt, the loss of the child Jesus in the temple, the anguish of not being able to find lodging for the Holy Family in Bethlehem, the meeting of Jesus on the way to Calvary, the Crucifixion of Jesus, the taking down of Jesus' body from the cross, and the burial of Jesus. The seven joys of St. Joseph include the annunciation by the angel, the visitation of Mary, the birth of Jesus, the adoration of the shepherds, the presentation of Jesus in the temple, the finding of Jesus in the temple, and the resurrection of Jesus.

To pray the chaplet, begin by holding the chaplet in your hand and saying the "Act of Contrition" on the cross. Then, on each group of beads, say one "Hail Mary" on the silver or purple beads and one "Our Father" on the white bead, followed by the "Glory Be to the Father" prayer. As you pray, consider a mystery of the Rosary on each Our Father bead and meditate on the sorrows and joys of St. Joseph.
